Riverside - Landlord puts brakes on bike thieves
19 February 2010
In a bid to reduce crime, Riverside is working with police in the Belle Vale and Netherley areas on a scheme to cut down on bicycle theft.
The social landlord funded a special bike marking day at the Millennium Centre to deter thieves. Police Community Support Officers mark up the bikes and record names and addresses of owners, in order to trace them if found.
Jackie Lowther is community initiatives officer for Riverside. She said: “This is just one initiative that we have funded working in collaboration with Police Community Support Officers, to foster good relations with local people, as well as reducing the fear of crime in our community.”
Future work includes more crime prevention days in the area, where residents can pick up safety gadgets such as panic alarms, shed alarms, intruder warnings and dummy CCTV devices. | |
