Riverside ECHG - Powerhouse Foyer in focus
25 February 2010
Toxteth TV is working with young people from ECHG’s Powerhouse Foyer, in Liverpool, training them in film making and broadcasting to help them produce their own TV show which will be broadcast on the Toxteth TV website.
Working with professional filmmakers the young people will broadcast from the Toxteth TV studio in March, writing, presenting, filming and directing their own show.
In the show the young people will focus upon issues affecting their lives, as well as celebrating their achievements. This programme will also look to challenge negative stereotypes about homelessness.
In addition to working with young people who have experienced homelessness, Toxteth TV is also working with local people, carers, older people, and adults with learning difficulties.
Ed Connole, creative director said: 'It’s a wonderful opportunity to be trained by professionals and use the programs as a means to express yourself to a wider audience, telling your stories and highlighting issues that have affected you.'
Dan Kayll, 19, who is a resident at the Powerhouse said: ‘This project has had such a positive influence on my life. It’s been hard work, but I’ve enjoyed every aspect of it.'
Liverpool Powerhouse Foyer provides support and accommodation for young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or in housing difficulties. Situated in Liverpool 8, it works with a number of organisations, providing assistance to its residents.
Toxteth TV also based in Liverpool 8 is a community media organisation that uses film making and media as a means to empower and improve the lives of young people of all ages, from eight to eighty.
This initiative was also featured in The Big Issue (North Edition).
